Abstract

|
Purpose : To investigate whether DEM test were able to assess reading ability.
Methods : For 246 elementary(4-6 grade) children, Visagraph II and DEM tests were performed and investigated whether horizontal, vertical, number of error and horizontal/Vertical (H/V ratio) of DEM tests were correlated with average fixation, regression, duration and reading rate of Visagraph II, respectively.
Results : Fixation, duration and reading rate of Visagraph II were significantly correlated with adjusted vertical time, and regression were correlated with adjusted horizontal and vertical time.
Conclusions : Adjusted horizontal time and H/V ratio which were important factors of DEM test were not correlated with reading rate of Visagraph II. Therefore DEM test need further research of validity for assessing reading ability.
